A SUBSTANTIAL LOSS
N.Z. RUGBY UNION’S OPERATIONS (A substantial loss on ’ the iyea;r’B operations is disclosed in the balancesheet to be submitted at the annual meeting of the New Zealand Rugby Union. “This was only to be expected,” states the report, “in view of the many calls on the Union’s funds and the limited sources of revenue open to it. The North and South match resulted in a loss, which is unusual. The assembly of the two sides at Auckland entailed heavy expense, while the state of the’ weather on th« day adversely affected the gate receipts.” The sum of £4BO was allotted to various unions for the encouragement of school football, and loans amounting to £B7OO were granted to different centres. Relative to the kick-into-toiicli rule, framed last season, it was pointed out that it would be amatter for delegates to the annual meeting to determine, whether the rule should continue in force. The report predicted a bright future for the game in Now Zealand.
