PAVILION AT THE BASIN . reserve.

A GOOD SUGGESTION. Sir, —The question of a pavilion on the Basin Reserve has moved on a step further by the publication of the award of the adjudicator® in the compel < ion for the best design. It srWna that the money available is not enough to carrv out the buildings in accordance therewith and to accommodate at least 2500 persons. What allowed the great cricket ground in Sydney to become an accomplished fact might help the council to carry out their full intention here. . The old-time cricketer, Ned Sheridan, and others undertook to get as many members as possible at a fixed figure, in return for which the ground committee were to give the contributors a life membership to the ground on all occasions except to charitably dates, when all members were supposed to make special contributions into boxes fixed for the purpose. The scheme was a great success, and the money came in and the ground was at once set in motion, which is now one or the best in the world. 1 would suggest that the following scale be put before the good sports of Wellington, for their comideration: —Say, £2O for a life membership, £lO for a 15 years’ membership, £5 for a 7 years’ membership, to be limited to 250 members, and the fund to be used as a special fund for ground improvements. To show that I am in earnest I forward you my cheque to be used when at least 100 members on the above scale have paid in. In this way we Wellingtonians may secure a ground in the centre of our town that will be a credit to the capital of New Zealand. Wishing for succes's. — I am, etc.; “THE WATCHER.” [“The Watcher” enclosed a cheque for £5 with tho above letter. His suggestion is a good one. The amounts suggested are perhaps rather high, but there should be no great difficulty in securing an established sum by the adoption of. some such scheme as outlined.]
