GOOD PILOTAGE
NO ACCIDENTS DURING YEAR. In the course of his annual report, the harbourmaster (Captain J. E. Daw-, sou) says: “The services of the board s pilots were engaged by .31 vessels, with n, net. tonnage of 103,825 tons from sea to anchorage, rad by 31 vessels with a neb tonnago of 105,615 tons from anchorage' to sea. Six hundre-d and eleven vessels with a. net tonage ot 2 756,990 were removed to and from tlie wharves. The total number of vessels handled by.the pilots was 6/3 with a net tonnage of 2,966,430 tons, vessels - with u net tonnage ol 21 1 9 0 tons were removed free for traffic purposes. Twenty-four mail steamers with a .net tonnage of 99,414 tolls (under contract to the Now Zealand Government) were removed free, and six cable steamers with a not tonnage of 5910 tons (under charter to tho -New Zealand Government) were removed free. Nine warships with a displacement of 22,950 tons were removed free. All tho vessels taking rt pilot ware handled by. the pilots carefully ajid without accident.
