RIFLE SHOOTING

F.F. AND I. COMPANY CUP. The annual shoott for the Fresh Food and Ice Co.’s Cup, between the rifle clubs of the V est Coast, took place on the Hautere Rifle Club’s range, at Te Horo, on Saturday, six teams of eight men each taking part, the ranges being 300, 500, and 600 yards, seven shots at each range. Hautere (holders) succeeded in adding another win to their many for this cup, of which they hold an almost unbroken record. Upper Hutt was second, nine points away, with Levin and Ngatiawa very close. The day was fine a strong wind, which badly beat the most experienced marksmen, the only bngh spots being Mackersey’s 34 at 000 for Hautere, and Whiteman 34 at 300 for Hutt. Three trophies were allotted by the executive, to the three highest aggregates in the cup, and field shield contest, and were won as follow: —

T s .—F, Whiteman 87 178 (Upper Hutt) 91 13s.—Tuke Whiteman 176 175 (Upper Hutt) 8s— J. Taylor (Hautere) • 91 84 84 Mackersey (Hautere) also made 175, hut. Tnvlor’s finish at the 600 yards at hnth shoots was much the best. The Indies of the district supplied refreshments, and a very pleasant day was spent.
