THEFTS FROM COUNTRY HOUSES
VALUABLE PAINTINGS STOLEN. London, March 18. While tho family was asleep at Benham Park, tho country mansion of Mr. Henry CCcil Sutton, a reputed millionaire, two Gainsboroughs and other pictures and art treasures were stolen, worth at least £50,000. Tho police believe the burglary was carried out by a gang of expert cracksmen, responsible for a series of large thefts in country houses last year. The booty in every case included paintings. Hitherto the gang has completely baffled the police.—Aus.-N.Z. Canle Assn.
