FORESTRY LEAGUE
A meeting of the executive of the 1 New Zealand Forestry League was held in the Dominion Farmers’ Institute on Thursday last, Mr. A. Leigh Ilunt presiding. An interesting discussion took place on the subject of : the protection of native birds, and particularly in reference to a reported attempt to have pukeko and paradise ducks removed from the protected schedule to the partially protected, and to declare a limited season tor shooting. Correspondence was read showing that the number of birds was a decreasing one. A full report on the subject is to be prepared for publication. Mr. Seed was appointed the league s delegate to the conference re the deer nroblem. to bo held on April 11. ‘Die extension of the league’s organisation was considered, and it was decided to take immediate steps to have branches of the league established in various centres. Several members had volunteered their services towards this end Reports from the Wellington and Canterbury branches of the league indicated considerable activity in the works of the league.
