MISPLACED ECONOMY Lit/tle idea had ono Albert John Dusko when ho travelled, on a. suburban train with au expired ticket in order to save oightpeuce in faxes that the economy would cost him something in the vicinity of £4. Yet such was the case, and yesterday he appeared before Mr. F. K. Hunt, S.M., to answer charges of attempting to use a railway ticket after the day of its expiration, altering it with intent to avoid tho payment of tho fare, and travelling without paying his fare. Duske, who was represented by Mr. A. B. Sievwright, maintained that he had asked the porter on tho train whether he was entitled to travel on the remaining “holes” of the ticket (which was shown to be a twelve-trip weekly), and denied having erased the dates. Ho had paid tho fare when requested to by the guard. After hearing the evidence, His Worship expressed his dissatisfaction with the defendant's story. “It is curious, ho remarked, “what some people will do wheivthey think they are oconomising to save a few pence. I think this man was trying to make a few pence by 'retting a few old tickets oil. 1 m going to bo very kind to him and not enter a conviction on the major count. I think he did erase the dates, but I’l' give him the benefit of the doubt and dismiss the information.” The defendant was fined £1 on each of the two charges cf travelling on the expired ticket, and ordered to pay costs £1 los.
