MUNICIPAL LICENSE
A PRINCIPLE AT STAKE BY TELEGRAPH.-PRESS ASSOCIATION. To Kultl, March 16. There was unusual interest in the election of the Waitomo Licensing Committee this year in view of the fact that Messrs. H. T. Morton and V. W. Lorrigan allowed themselves to be nominated solely to foster tho municipal license scheme .for Te Kuiti in the event of the Government’s granting local option. They were opposed by Messrs. J. N. Boddie and W. Hattaway_ (Te Kuiti) in the interests of prohibition There were ten candidates for the five seats. On account of the nature of tho electorate the returns have been stow in earning to hand. The latest available figures are: —Morton, 936: Lorrigan, 8-17; Piggott, 753; Jenkins, 758; Seymour, 692; Smythe, 565 ; Bird, 517 ; Birdling, 512; Boddie, 335; Hattaway, 307. f Seven small returns, unlikely to affect the placing of the five, have still to be received.
