A peasant at Hotin, Bessarabia, taking refuge in a cavern from a storm, discovered to his horror a human skeleton secured by chaints. riveted to tho walls A notebook beside the body showed that the victim was Magdalene Frisch, and revealed that she was a Polish Jewess engaged to Savro. a Russian airman. Under the influence of Savro she entered the German spy service and later became a Bolshevik spy in Denikin’s and Wrangel’s armies Magdaleno carrying messages from Savro to. tho Bolsheviks. Eventually, when Savro was wounded. his papers revealed his and Magdalene’s treachery. Savro was shot. Tho girl escaped, but later was recognised in the streets of Hotin. and kidnapped. Her captors carried her to tho cavern and chained her to the rocks and left her to die of starvaTho girl wrote her full story in the notebook, dated October, J then to escape starvation she took noison which one of her captors in Ditv had left.—Aus.-N.Z.
