BUTTER AND CHEESE LONDON QUOTATIONS. London, March 8. The butter market is quiet. Consumption has been checked by the retail price having risen above two shillings a pound. Danish has dropped sharps to 208 s. to 210 - per cwt. New Zealand, choicest 2065. to 2085., unsalted 210 s. ; Australian 200 s. 6d. to 2025., unsalted 2045, c XT ' The cheeso market is very firm. N.Z. white cheese, 140 s. to 1425.; N.Z. coloured cheese, 1425. to 1445. ; market firm.” SHEEPSKIN HIDE AND TALLOW SALE The sales of sheepskins, hides, and tallow were resumed on Friday, after an interval of six weeks. There was a good attendance of exporters, tanners, fellmongers, and the local trade For sheepskins competition was keen and the values generally ruling were very firm and equal to best rates in the January salesSalties, if anything,' sold in seller’s favour. There was a steady demand for hides, and clearances were very satisfactory. Heavies appreciated by fully Jd. to Id. per lb. ; mediums about id., and light hides about on a par with January rates. Calf were lower by 2d. to 3d. per lb. Shipping packages of tallow showed an advance of 10s. to £1 per, ton on late rates, well rendered lines showing most improvement.
