WELLINGTON STOCK EXCHANGE SATURDAY’S BUSINESS AND PRICES During the past week 12 sales were recorded on tho Wellington Stock .Exchange, as against 14 in the previous week. Only one sale, that of Y\ ilson s Cement shares at 245. 3d., was recorded on Saturday. All through the week there was a good demand for giltedged securit-es, but the prices offered wore not sufficiently attractive to sellers, and only one sale was recorded. Bank shares have been very quiet, the onlv demand experienced during the week being for National Bank and Union Bank, both of which advanced, the former by Is. Cd., and tho latter by 2s. Bank of New Zealand shares were neglected, and were on sale at £2 175., but bitvers restricted their bids to £2 16s. Del. Towards the week-end Dalgety and Co.’s shares received attention, buyers offering £l2 ss. N.Z. Loan and Mercantile, ordinary stock, which on March 1 were quoted at £B3, are now in good demand at £B5. N.Z. and River Plate shares advanced 9d. during the week to 21 s. 3d. Wellington Trust nnd Loan shares have been in steady demand at £5 14_s., but as a sale was made at £5 15s. the latter may be regarded as the current value. Gas shares have kept firm; holders, however, show no inclination to accept the prices offered, and the chances of business depend upon whether buyers will raise their offers. There been a good steady inquiry for insurance shares, particularly for National, which show a. slight, advance nt £3 155.. and South British have been very firm at 375. 9d., a rise of 6d. during the week. There was a good demand throughout the week for N.Z. Refrigerating and Gear Meat shares, but business has been slow ns holders show no disposition to accept current rates, and Wellington Meat Export shares (£3 12s. 6d. paid) rose 2s. during the week, the buying quotation on Saturday being £3 Is. Hud-dart-l’arker ordinary shares advanced 3s. during the week, tho rise being due to the announcement of the dividend, and the distribution of bonus shares. Woollen shares were quiet all through tho week. Westport Coal shares at 355. show an advance of 9d., and Westport-Stockholm have been in steady demand at 4s. 3d. Glaxo debentures were in good demand at £9l, but sellers are holding out for £95. Manning and Co. brewery shares rose sixpence during the week to £4 125.; National Electric at 21s. 3d., rose 3d. ; N.Z. Drug at £2 18s. 3d., cum dividend, show an advance of 3d. ; and Wilson’s Cement rose Is. 3d. during the week to 245. 3d. Saturday’s buying nnd selling quotations were as under; —
