ATHLETICS

WELLINGTON CLUB’S MEETING SCHOOL CHAMPIONSHIPS THE ETEVENEAUX CUP There was nothing of a sensational nature in the performances at the Wellington Amateur Atheltio Club's gathering at Athletic Park on Saturday, but tho races, owing to good handicapping and starting, were nearly all interesting, and merited a better attendanco of the public. Only some 1000 persons were present, a small attendance when it Is considered that the primary and secondary schools were fighting out their championships, and competing for the Blundell Cups, and that ladies' teams were contesting the Eteveneaux Cup.

The college events for the Blundell Cup (100 and 440 yards and relay race) were keenly contested. Wellington College was an easy winner, with 16 points, St. Patricks College gaming 6 points, and Technical College - points. Newtown, largely owing to the work of C. Leer, won as easily m a larger field with 14 points, lerraco gaining 3, Marist 3, Hutt 3, and Mt. Cook 1. Leer was m fine condition, and won his heat and the final in the 100yds. easilv; won his heat in tne 2 9 0 and the final by four yards, and was an easy first in the relay race, running in good style. The Eteveneaux Cup for competitors between ladies relay teams'from Wellington and Masterton, remains in the hands of Av 6l-lino-ton. Wellington was defeated at Masterton, and Wairarapa here, so that Saturday’s win for Wellington decided the matter. Tracv won the Challenge Baton (presented by Messrs. W J. end J. W. Heenan) for the M ellington Amateur Athletic Club m a close tussle with Wilson. A strong wind in the earlier part of the afternoon made the longer races tiring, and no doubt accounted for the absence of anything startling in the times recorded the majoritv of-which were wi'll below standard. The meeting was well conducted in every way. Results in deta 'loo YARDS HANDICAP.
