CITY BURGLARY SEQUEL
ALLEGED THIEF ARRESTED RECOVERY OF MISSING PROPERTY A sequel to the recent burglarious entrance of the Wellington Woollen Company’s warehouse, which is situated on tho corner of Willeston Street and Jervois Quay, was recorded yesterday afternoon, when the police investigation terminated In the apprehension of a young man, who will be called upon in the Magistrate's Court this morning to answer a charge of breaking, entering, and theft.
The circumstances surrounding tho burglary were somewhat remarkable. At a late hour on Sunday, February IS, the secretary of the firm (Mr. A. E. Donne) received, a mysterious telephone message to the effect that the company’s motor-car (estimated to be worth £450) had been taken from the vehicle entrance and left at Island Bay. Upon arrival at the warehouse it was found that the car had certainly been taken, but whether it lift the premises empty or otherwise could not bo ascertained until the following morning. A search of the stock then placed the matter beyond dispute, it being discovered that 100 yards of suiting, constituting two entire pieces, and 4QO yards of silk were missing. The material was valued by the firm at £l5O. The accuracy of the information convoyed by the telephone message was verified on the Tuesday, when the missing motor-car was located in the vicinity suggested by the obliging informant. It is understood that all the property has been recovered.
