Smiling cheerfully, Daniel Keane, alias Kane, stepped into the dock in tho Magistrate’s Court yesterday to try and explain why he should not bs deemed a rogue and vagabond as he had been found by night on premises at 89 Thorndon Quay. , According to Senior-Sergeant Lander, the accused on Tuesday evening had been found sleeping in an unoccupied dwelling which lie admitted he had used for that purpose for some evenings past. “He has only been out of gaol lor.a month,” added tho seniorsergeant, “and ho has a. long list of pievious convictions.” Tho accused declared that ho had been working on the. waterfront, but was unable to recall the name of the last vessel on which he had been employed . Tlio Magistrate (Mr. E. Page, S.M.) entered a conviction and sentenced him to two months' imprisonment.
