EA'ENING meeting. The first evening meeting of the new year and the last of the old programme was. held yesterday at; Kelburn Park under the control of the Alanst Old Boys’ Athletic Club. All of the events brought out a largo competitors. and some remarkably close finishes were witnessed, a sinking tribute to the discrimination and judgment ot the handicapper. The conditions were far from ideal, there being a strong and keenly biting wind blowing making for discomfort and greatly hindering the-competitors in the longer distances. ~ The following are the results.---100yds. Handicap.—First heat: A. M. Louis (6yds.). 1: H Malmanche (4yds.), 2: F. Crotty (7yds.). 3. Time 10 3-ssec. Second heat. E.- Guj (6* vds) 1: H. G. Sargeant (9bds.) ; 2, 1? fin’lv (4vds.). 3. The performance of McKinlay, who was tho virtual scratch man, put up a meritorious performance. Taking the lead halfway in the last lap, he von easily, finishing strongly. 440vds —R.
