£5OO FROM THE GOVERNMENT’. Mr. Percival Witherby has received the following letter from the Prime Minister:— .../ “Prime Minister’s Office. ■ / “Wellington, "October 27, 1922. "Dear Mr. Witherby,—l am interested and glad te hear that you 'have been appointed honorary financial organiser to the Boy Scouts’ Association, which, in my opinion, is one of the most useful movements of the day. I am convinced that the future, not only of this country, but, may I say,' of 'the whole Empire, depends upon the practice of the principles on which the Bo'v Scouts’ Association is based being observed by adult citizens, and that the best chance of its ideal being materialised is to instil those principles into the minds of the.young. The Government thinks so highly of tho Bov Scout movement that, despite the present .economic conditions prevailing in the Dominion, it has decided to allot it a sum of £5OO this year. This will. I hope, be an.incentive to citizens to raise the further £4500 which I understand your executive requires to finance and more fully develop tlm organisation which, let it not be forgotten, depends upon Hm sacrifice and efforts efr individual cit - zeiis themselves. “Wishing you all success in your mission, “Yours sincerely, "(Sgd.) W. F. MASSEY.”
