A VIOLENT STORM
LIGHTNING DOES MUCH DAMAGE By Tbt.bobaph.—press association. Christchurch, November'S. .Very heavy rain fell during the night, and lias improved the outlook in the country. The weather is now clearing. During the height of the storm at 8.30 p.m., an acacia tree in Kent Street, Sydenham, was struck, by lightning and split, portions Being hurled forty yards. The lightning .ilso struck a corner of tlio roof of a residence belonging to Mr. M. J. Bailey, doing much damage, smashing gas 'mantles, and scattering articles on shelves. The current passed along a clothes linos from the tree to the workshop of Mr. J. A. Hill’s residence, scorching the joists, and making a hole in the ground.
