The Country Press Conference at Sydney adopted a resolution recommending the various State associations to follow the example of the New Zealand Proprietors’ Association in pooling orders for newsprint. The Western Australian Legislative Assembly discussed the Hospitals Bill, which provides for a tax of Id. in the £1 on all breadwinners in the State. It is expected thereby to raise an annual revenue of £1.0,000 for the maintenance of hospitals. The New South Wales Legislative Assembly passed the North Shore Bridge Bill with the assistance of a section of tho Labour Party, after strenuous opposition by the Country Party. The Bill provides for levying a special property tax on districts directly benefited by tho bridge when it is built.
