RETURNED SOLDIERS AND POLITICS
STRICTLY NON-PARTY BODY- ■ . ' . The fact that General Russell, president of the New Zealand Returned Soldiers’ Association, and Colonel 1. M r . McDonald, a member of the Dominion Executive, are candidates for Parliament, was referred to by Mr. G. S. Graham (Otago) at the meeting of tho Dominion Executive of the N.Z.R.S.A. yesterday. Mr. Graham thought it would be wise on the association’s part to definitely repeat that it was a strictly non-political party, and that the two candidates referred to had no connection with the associatloMr. W. E. Leadley (Canterbury) thought they would bo doing more harm than good in drawing attention to the matter. Mr. T. Lona: (Auckland) said lie thought everyone realised that General Russell and Colonel McDonald were standing for the House as. private gentlemen and not as nominees ot the Mr. Graham repeated that he considered the association should make the position' perfectly clear. . . A motion was carried, emphasising that the constitution of the association made it impossible for them to nominate any candidates for 1 arliament. --
