The extension of the tramway section on the Karori route, at present from the tunnel to Johnson Street, to the top of Church Hill, recommended by the Tramways Committee at last night’s meeting of the City Council, aroused a protest from certain councillors, and after a lengthy discussion the clause, was referred back to the committee. TRACK-LAYING. Work is now proceeding on Lambton Quay to complete tho substitution of the old tracks with new rails. The extreme northern-end of the Quay, and that between Woodward, and Muns Streets was done earlier in the year, tout between the State Fire Department’s new building and the Royal Hotel remained a section marked by sadly-worn -Tails. The new rails will be down in the course of next week, and a little later it is anticipated that a start will be made duplicating the track in Luxford Street, and altering the curve at the corner of Luxford and Rintoul Streets, in order that any class of car may be used on the IsBay line. _____
