ACTIVE DEMAND PRICES WELL MAINTAINED Tho Wellington woolbrokers hold the final sale of tho season in the Oddfellows’ Hall. Lambtdn Quay, yesterday, when catalogues aggregating 1251 bales were submitted, and praoticajly the lot sold, for the withdrawals were exceedingly small. There was a fairly full beaich of buyers present. Bradford and Japan being specially represented, and bidding generally was keen and animated. Tho bulk cf the offering consisted of crutchings, and these sold well, Japan and Bradford talcing fair quantities, and local mills and follmongers and scourers lining strongly in evidence. Crutchings realised up to the level of prices inling at the last sale held on July 20, the best sorts making sd. to s}d. and up to Cd., the bulk, however, sold at about sd. Bellies and pieces received a good deal of attention, and exhibited a firmer tone. . Locks and stained pieces sold at about last sale’s rates. There were some odd lots of fleeco wool, a bale or two in each catalogue, and though selling readily the prices were not quite up to those realised, at last sales. • The official quotations, compared with those ruling at the July sale,

DALGETY AND CO. The eighth sale of the season was held yesterday, the total offering amounting to 1280 hales, of which we contributed 220. About 50 per cent, of the catalogues were crutchings, a fair proportion being super. There was very little fleece wpol offered, but bellies, pieces, aud oddments comprised about half of the offering. For a clear-ing-up sale the attendance of buyers must be considered good. A number of scouring works buyers and the local mills, were represented. Oversea’s buyers were well represented, and the tone of the sale, considering tho quality offered, was sound. Crutchings were in demand for Japan, aud prices were alx>ut on a par with July rates. Included in our catalogue were somo good lines of crutchings, and we are pleased to report having realised the top price for 10. bales branded Branscombe/CPK, which realised 6d. per lb. A few parcels of fleece wool were in the catalogue, and as compared with last sales rates showed a slight decline. We disposed of 98 per cent, of our catalogue under the hammer. MURRAY, ROBERTS, AND CO. Eor the last sale prior to the opening of tho new season, wo submitted a catalogue of 208 bales of wool, principally consisting of crutchings, very few lots of crossbred being shown. Bidding was brisk for all lots, with the exception of very seedy parcels. Compared with last sale, fleece wool sold at about par, superior crutchings at about last sale’s level, with an occasional advance, while average medium crutchings were in keen demand at Id. to -Jd. higher rates. Seedy sorts solei at par with last sale. A few odd bales of lambs’ wool were offered, and, where suitable for local woollen mills, sold at a good level of values,
but seedy lots were neglected. Pieces and bellies, when free from seed, also reached satisfactory figures. LEVIN AND CO. Our catalogue comprised 345 bales. Several small parcels of .fleece wool were in evidence, but not in sufficient quantity to warrant special quotations. For crutchings, which constituted the bulk of the offering, there were special orders in the market from Japan, and Bradford and local operators werb also keenly bidding. All grades of crutchings sold fully up to values obtained at the sale on July 20, when best lots sold at sd. to 5Jd., and exceptional quality occasionally higher. ’The bulk was selling at round about sd. NEW ZEALAND LOAN AND MERCANTILE. There was a fairly good attendance of buyers,; including several oversea® representatives, as well as the local mills, scourers, and shippers. Competition was good for crutchings, which sold at prices well up to last sale. There was no difficulty in selling fleece wool at values fully up to London parity Bellies, pieces, ’ and locks were well competed for by local mills and scourers. ABRAHAM AND WILLIAMS. We submitted a fair catalogue, and although one or two of the principal buyers were absent, prices were much the same as at the previous sales, and in some instances a trifle higher for good condition and quality, and well above London parity. Bellies, pieces, and locks were in good demand by the local mills and scourers, and prices were firmer for these grades. Some of our sales w<u~e as follow: —HWS/J, 13 bales, medium crossbred, 7d. ; BSN, fine crossbred, HJd. ; bellies and pieces, 4|d.; locks t 2|d. Various brands of crutchings in small lots ranged from 4d. to sfd. for medium, and 2|d. to •3Jd. for inferior and seedy.
