SENTENCED TO IMPRISONMENT AND FINED.
Brisbane. September 29 John Sleeman and’ Edward Connolly were found guilty of atempting to influence votes, with a strong recommendation to mercy on the grounds of great, encouragement, and the fact that a bait was held out to them as a trap.—Press Assn. . [Sleeman and Connolly, two Brisbane journalists,, were charged with attempting to bribe Mr. F-' Brennan, a member of the Queensland Labour Party, to vote against the Government. on a censure motion in the Legislative Assembly. The cens’ure motion on August 15 was actually defeated" by 36 votes to 35, and the Premier, Mr. Tlioodore, then made allegations of bribery against the Opposition. Ont of this accusation arose the proceedings against Sleeman and Connolly.] (Rec. September .29, 10.20 Brisbane, September 29.
