THE LAMBTON FATALITY AN OPEN VERDICT An inquest concerning the death the young man, Stanley Buckley, who. died at the hospital as the reailt of Jieing pinned unoter a tramcar, opposite Irfuiibtan Station on August LU. Was conducted yesterday by the Coroner (Mr. F. K. Hunt, S.MJ. Senior-Sergeant Lander represented the police, Mr. JtL H. Cornish appeared far the relatives of the deceased, and Mr. L. C. Hemery for the city corporation. Ur. J. B. Baird, house Burgeon at Wellington Hospital, said that the deceased had been admitted at about 8.30 a.m. on August 16. He was in <ui unconscious condition, and. Buffering from, a fracture of the skull. Deceased never regained consciousness, and died on Thursday afternoon. Arthur Onslow Thompson, the motorman on the car which struck deceased, said that on the morning in question his car was approaching car 123. • Witness saw a man standing on the footboard of the othei car. The footboard was down on tho wrong side. As the cars approached the man on the footboard appeared as if he were going to jump off. Witness applied the brake as quickly as possible, and whan tho cor stopped it was found that the man was pinned under the axle. George Thomas Tyler, conductor of car No. 123, said that he had changed over the steps at the dispatch box, and the oar proceeded to the long shunt. When passing to the rear of the car after the short shunt, he saw a man in a falling position, and aa he fell he hit the side of car 25. Witness called out, and thoniumped off the car. John Alexander Wilson said he caw the two care approaching, and saw deceased in the act of falling off the car going in the direction of Thorndaa. Deceased appeared to fall against the oncoming car, and he was thrown back by it against tho Thorndon-bound ffiW. the back stem of which threw him back again into the Newtown-bound car. - The Coroner found that deceased had died at the hospital from a fractured stall, caused through hia falling or jumping off a tramcar whilst in motion and striking a ipaaeing car.
