MONEY ON DEPOSIT

Sir, —In this morning’s Dominion I noticed a paragraph in the commercial column, in which you say “Tho question of private companies accepting deposits for fixed periods, or at short call is one that must receive close attention very soon.” Why must it? Is it because the banks desire to restrict the operations of companies able to .procure money on deposit at less than 7 per cent? Companies do not. conceal, the amount of their deposits in their balance sheets. Every company’s books are audited, and the. auditor sees that the accounts are in order before he certifies to the balance sheet as being correct.—l am, etc., T DIRK. June 28, 1922.
