PLAGUE REMEDY

NEW SERUM DISCOVERED BY SYDNEY DOCTOR USE OPPOSED BY FEDERAL AUTHORITIES by Telegraph-Press Association. —OOPYBIGHT. Sydney, May 13. The “Daily Telegraph” draws attention to the fact that a new anti-plague serum, discovered by a young Sydney doctor, is being used in Sydney and is apparently proving a powerful weapon against, the scourge; yet the Federal authorities and the Queensland Government, acting under Federal advice, refuse to use it. The paper states that out of thirtyone oases in Sydney, seven have died, and two of these were not treated with the new serum. Only two of the others died after having been properly treated, and one of these was a man of 85. In Queensland, where tho new serum is not employed, 64 out of 115 plague patients have died. Though the discoverer does not claim that tho serum will cure plague, the patients treated so far being too few for a definite conclusion, the “Telegraph” contends that large experience might prove that a cure for the dreaded disease has at last been discovered. — Press Assn.

Addresses will be delivered urging on the citizens the necessity for a week-end clean-up of all refuse, and garbage so as to discourage rats. — Press Assn. The examination of a dead rat, found at Dimboola and suspected to have had plague, gave negative results, and the vessel on which it was found has returned to the ‘wharf to load for the East. —Press Assn.
