The Sydney Chinese celebrated tho first anniversary of the accession of Sun Yat Sen by a harbour excursion and luncheon. They sent a mossago tq Sun Yat Sen assuring him of loyalty and wishing success to his expedition. Mr. E. Denby, United States Secretary of the Navy, at President Harding’s request, is going to Japan to attend a reunion of ths American Naval Academy class of 1881, of which Admiral Urin, of the Japanese Navy, was a graduate. Tho conference of the National and Country Parties of Queensland has reached an agreement to co-operate in the elections against the Labourites. Electorates are to be allocated to National or Country candidates by mutual arrangement.

The Lackawanna Steel Company, with properties valued at sixty-three million dollars, and controlling some of the largest coal and iron tracts in America, has been merged with the Bethlehem Steel Corporation, tho largest independent producers of steel in the United States. The Astronomical Conference at Romo has concluded. Excellent work was accomplished by thirty-two astronomical and six geodetic and geophysical commissions. At the close of the conference official receptions were given at the Palatine Academia Licei at the Vatican. The Pope said he hoped scientific relations in search of truth would assist in the pacification of the world.

Th© Shires’ Association Conference decided to ask the Federal Government to prohibit the use, importation, and manufacture of wax matches,’ and to allow only those which strike upon a preparation attached,to the container. It is stated that many fires, resulting in great damage, have been caused in the country through the us© of matches. The conference also decided to try to secure a proclamation that bees are a nuisance in town areas.
