HORA HORA POWER STATION
TENDERS ACCEPTED
Tenders to the amount of about £32,000 have been accepted by the Public AA’orks Department in connection with the extension of the Hora Hora hydro-electric power station, which was purchased by the Government some time ago from the AVailii Mining Company. The existing station comprises six 1000 kilowatt units. The proposed new installation consists of two 2000 kilowatt units', which will bring the total capacity up to 10,000 kilowatts.
Competition for the supply of the material was very keen, tenders being received from New Zealand, Australia, Britain, the United States Switzerland. and Sweden. The work has all been kept within the British Empire, the successful tenders being as follow Generators, English Electric Company, of AVellington, at ; turbines, Vickers, Ltd., £11,787; exciter sets. J. J. Niven and Co., of AVellington. at £2690; turbine pit gates, Dansey and Co., of Auckland, nt £2840. Dansey and Co. are acting as the agents of a Canadian firm.
