BIG DROP REGISTERED “During the year,” says the city engineer’s report on the building of the year ended March 31, 339 permits were issued for the erection of new buildings and for alterations and additions to existing buildings in tho city and district, as compared with 307 for tho preceding year. An analysis is as follows: —

“The total estimated value of work for which permits were issued is £207,526, as against £504,383 for tho preceding year. In the Melrose district the number of permits issued totalled 442, as com pared with 401 last year; Northland, 22, as compared with’3o; Wadestown 45, compared with 36; Onslow 44, compared with 52; Karori 25, comparedwith 29.
