WORK GOING TO CONTINENT GREAT SUM FOR WAGES LOST (Rec. March 30, 5.5'p.m.) London, March 29. The first disastrous result of the shipyard workers’ stoppage on the Clyde is the decision of the shipbuilders to dispatch three largo liners to Cherbourg to complete their fitting out. Others will follow if work is not resumed. North Shields has lost a contract, the wages bill of which was £25,000. The vessel is proceeding. to Rotterdam for repairs.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn. “KRUPP’S OF ITALY” CLOSING LARGE NUMBER OF MEN AFFECTED (Rec. March 30, 7.25 p.m.) Romo, March 29. The famous shipbuilding and ironworking yards, the Ansalde, at Genoa, which are known as the Krupp’s of Italy, are closing down, throwing out of work from thirty to fifty thousand employees. This decision is said to be due to Socialists’ interference and the Government’s imposition of a war profit tax amounting to five hundred million lire, which have made it impossible to. restart on a peace basis. — Aus.-N.Z.
