GUILTY OF MANSLAUGHTER
SENTENCE OF FIVE YEARS’ IMPRISONMENT.
(Rec. March 1, 7.30 p.m.) Melbourne, March 1. George Baker, who shot Joseph Rainsburg at Brighton on New Year’s Eve, has been found guilty of manslaughter and sentenced to five years’ imprisonment.—Press Assn.
[When Mrs. Baker, who was separated from her husband, arrived home late at night on New Year’s Eve, with her son and a boarder named Rainsburg, Baker appeared from one of the rooms, and commenced firing a revolver. He fatally shot Rainsburg aud wounded his wife in the head, and his son slightly. Baker escaped to a paddock, where he exchanged shots with the police, and then shot himself in tho head, inflicting a severe wound. The tragedy was the finale of* a long family quarrel, and a few days earlier the wife had secured a protection order against Baker, in view of alleged threats.]
