Scotland was resumed to-day tho wicket was good, being hard and fast. Sorrie and Kerr were tho opening batsmen for Scotland, and they made a good start, putting 36 on the sheet before Kerr was 'bowled by M'Donald. Batson, the newcomer, was sent back by Ryder after he had scored 8. Two runs later Sone was caught off Mailey. Three for 45. The hatting was rather better than the score indicates. Some of the strokes to the off were hard and well timed, eluding the fielders. Campbell and Ferguson scored at a good rate, and both got fours off Mailey and Ryder. The century came up after two hours’ play. After tea Pellew, in a brilliant attempt to save a boundary, capsized among the spectators, but was not hurt. Campbell had batted seventy minutes, and hit six fours, before he got his leg in front of one from M'Donald. Six for 122. Mitchell did not score, and at 136 Ferguson played one on off his leg. Be had made 37 in seventy minutes, including seven fours. His was a sound, hard display. M'Donald was frequently no-balled for dragging his foot over the crease. Sievewright was caught by Bardsley off Mailey at 159, and Bissett was stumped by Carter off Mailey, and the innings closed for 162. There was about an hour left for play, and Kerr and Sorrie went in ag ain f, ° r Scotland, and they put on 79 before stumps were drawn. The following are the detailed scores:— AUSTRALIA.
