MISSING SHIPS
TWENTY REPORTED IN SIX MONTHS BELIEF IN PIRACY THEORY By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright Washington, June 22. The Commerce Department has issued s, list of twenty ships reported missing during the last six months, inoluding the British tank steamers Ottawa and Gymerio, and the British schooner General Horne. The other vessels are American, Italian, Japanese, Danish, Russian, Span, ish, Norwegian, French, and Brazilian. Tho piracy theory is strengthened by a State Department statement concerning the American schooner Carrell A. Deering, which woe found off North Carolina in such a condition that foul play Is suspected. The State Department be. lioves that other vessels , may have met a similar fate.
The mystery is causing a sensation in shipping circles. Lloyd’s is joining in the investigation.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
