BISHOP AVERILL WILL ASSIST. Bishop Averill, of Auckland, has expressed (in a communication forwarded to Base Records, Wolling+on).' his warm sympathy with the Defence Department’s idea that individual friendships constitute the greatest, need of lonely soldiers in th© New Zealand hospitals. The Bishop lias been informed by the Department that it wishes io have the assistance of ‘‘big-liearicd men who will give a little time and a little sympathy, and individually become foster parents or friends to soldier patients.” He has consented to do all that hei can to ensure that the men in the Auckland district are not left friendless. . "An ex« cellent idea,” is His lordships opinion, of the Department's scheme.
