HOSPITAL MATRON MISSING

STRANGE DISAPPEARANCE FROM GREYTOWN MANY PARTIES SEARCHING (f'tom Our Own Correspondent.) Greytown, Juue 10A most peculiar disappearance has occurred in Greytown. Miss Lindsay, matron of the Greytown Hospital, had been ill for some’time, and‘was under the charge of two of the nurses at that institution till about 7 p.m. last night, when, being apparently left alone for a. few minute's, she disappeared from the> hospital, wearing only a light gown and. slippers. An alarm was given, and large search parties remained out ull night. At 8 a.ni. to-day the iirebel) sounded an alarm, and all available assistance was summoned to continue the search. The local baths, cemetery, and bush and paddocks for miles round have been, searched. Parties from Martinborough came up the Ruamahanga River and met those from Greytown. Others went from. Greytown up the River. Settlers in the outskirts are all on the alert. It waft rumoured that the missing lady was seen getting into a motor-car: -rad going towards Masterton. The police took thia clue up, but so far no news has come in of success. At 1 p.m. another party took up the search, and it was still out late this afternoon. It seems that Miss’ Lindsay has been; under the doctor’s care for some time, ■and recently was away on leave. On her return she had not improved much, and was treated as a patient. Her parents were in Greytown yesterday on a visit, and this may have unnerved her. Mr. Lindsay, it is understood, resides in Invercargill, and was here only on a. short visit. Miss Lindsay was a "sister" in this hospital until Miss M’Lean, tlia then matron, died, and she succeeded to the pasition of matron. She proved herself almost'kindly matron, and was much respected by patients and visitors and the townspeople. In addition to adults out scouting, large number of the senior school boys are scattered all round Greytown heli>ing in the search.
