FRANCES DEVASTATED AREA
BRITISH EX-SERVICE MEN BEING EMPLOYED. (Rec. June 8, 5.5 p.m.) London, June 7. The "Morning Post’s” Paris correspondent states that 150 unemployed British ex-service workers are being employed experimentally in the devastated area. It is hoped the result will justify the employment of thousands in the near future. There is no unemployment problem in France. The slow recovery of the devastated area is principally due to a shortage of labour, which deficiency has been partly covered by the employment of Slovak, Spanish, and Italian unskilled men. As the Britishers will be paid French trade union rates, no difficulty with the trade unions is an-ticipateil.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
