BRITISH TRADE

Following the long period of partial Government control arising out of war conditions and other' trade restrictions natural to disturbed periods, there is now a general revival of real active competition in British Itra'de. Signs of renewed competition will be very noticeable nt the annual trade fair in London of the confectioners and bakers (September 3 to 9), and the grocers and provision dealers (September 17 to 23). In the -former case an important new feature will be the sugar confectionery section, while in another department the millers, who have recently been decontrolled, will once more be found in open competition with each other, and will make special efforts to interest buyers from abroad who ire "xpected In larje numliers this year. New features at the grocers' exhibition are a canned goods competition nnd a fruit section, in which also great preliminary interest is being taken.
