LONG-LIVED TRESTLE BRIDGES ■ v The name of Brunel is known all over tho engineering world as tho constructor of the Great Eastern (the first leviathan ocean liner) and tho designer of many of tho •early railway lines in Great Britain and elsewhere. It has recently come to light that several of tho wooden trestle railway bridegs built to Brunel's designs aro still in existence. They wore, in fact, so admirably designed and constructed that they might be retained indefinitely. The only reason for replacing them is that they are not quite strong enough for the heavier locomotives now being used.
