MUST BE READY TO FIGHT NEW SECRETARY’S VIEWS AS TO HIS DUTY (By Telegraph—Press Association-Copyright (Rec. March 1, 11.30 p.m) New York, February 28. Mr, Denby, the newly-appointed Secretary of the Navy, in the course of a statement at Detroit, said: "Tho size of the American Navy is a matter of tho greatest importance.' I believe the present building programme, with perhaps some alterations suggested by experience and careful thought, should proceed. M o are a Power to such an extent that a navy equal of any other seems justly and naturally called for. I believe in, and will urgo a strong first line of defence. Primarily my duty will be to help keep the navy, and the marine corps not only ready to fight, but fit to fight and trained to the minute." —Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
