The six men arrested and condemned in connection with the Macroon ambush were shot in Cork Barracks. They were shot in batches of two, and as tho bodies fell the chaplains rushed forward and administered the sacrament of Extreme Unction. —Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn. excitemenFTn cork ENCOUNTERS BETWEEN SOLDIERS AND CIVILIANS. (Rec. March 1, 9.55 p.m.) London, March 1. A crowd outside the barracks at Cork during the executions recited prayers, and then dispersed quietly, but the city is excited. The tension, which has increased hourly, culminated at dark in a number of encounters between soldiers and civilians. Two soldiers were killed, and six soldiers and several civilians were wounded. General Strickland has ordered all persons to be indoors at 6 p.m. in future.— Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn. SOLDIERS’ SHOT BY GUNMEN. (Rec. March 1, 8.5 p.m.) London, March 1. Ab an outcome of the Cork executions, gunmen attacked soldiers in the streets of Cork, killing five and wounding eleven. A number of civilians also were wounded. It is rumoured in Cork that several persons have recently disappeared, and it is believed that they have been kidnapped, their fate depending' on the fate of the six men executed. —Aus.-N.Z. London, February 28. Fifty civilians ambushed fifteen policemen, who were proceeding to the Mullingar Assizes. Shots were exchanged, and tw<\ civilians were wounded.—Aus.N.Z. Cable Assn. UNIVERSITY SEARCHED. London, February 28. A large force of police and military occupied the National University Buildings in Dublin. The lectures were suspended while the students were assembled and searched. —Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn. THE GRESHAMHOTEL MURDERS NUMBER OF PRISONERS TO BE EXECUTED. London, February 28. Dublin reports state that a number of prisoners who were court-martialled in connection with the murders of officers and ex-officers at the Gresham Hotel and private houses on November 21, will be executed this week.—Aus.-N.Z.
