MR. MASSEY ON THE WEST COAST
HEARTY PUBLIC RECEPTIONS.

The Prime. Minister arrived at Reefton at 10 o’clock this morning, received a deputation, was entertained at luncheon and left at 1 o’clock for Westport.

Tho Prime Minister was met to-day at Inangahua Junction 'by a large representation of the Buller Progress League, including heads of all local bodies in Westport, and given a most cordial reception. Ho met some deputations, including one in reference to the. Buller Gorge railway, which pressed for the speedy completion of the line. Later, as the party was coming down the Gorge, the Primo Minister was taken into one of the mines_just off the roadside, where a coal face 27 feet In thickness was being worked The Prime Minister remarked, “I must get this railway through.’’' He regretted that trains were not now running there to bring the coal to -waiting markets. On arrival in town, Mr. Massey, with the heads of Government Departments from Wellington, had a consultation with the Harbour Board, which the Government will take over on April 1. . This evening the Prime Minister was given a great civic reception, people turning out in large numbers and crowding the theatre. The speakers were theMayoi (Mr Menzies), Messrs. M'lntyre(chairman County Council). Holland and Hudson M.P/s. The Prime Minister dealt -Kith local and Imperial questions,* and at the conclusion was accorded a most h/ flr h' vote of thanks, on the motion of Ml. ‘Gothard (president, of the League), seconded by Mr. G.
