A POPULAR OFFICER
FAREWELL TO CAPTAIN W. M. BELL.
Captain W. At. Bell. N.Z.S.C., who has for some time teen officer commanding No. 5 Group,'.Wellington, has been appointed A.D.C./ to Colonel R. W. Tate, Administrator of Samoa, and will leave on Friday to take up his new duties. The esteem iu which he is held by the officers of Wellington was marked last evening by the large assemblage of officers of th© garrison which gathered at Dustin's rooms, Cuba Street, ilo bid him farowell. Colonel R. St. J. Beere, D. 5.0., officer commanding (the sth (Wellington) Regiment, presided, and Colonel G. I’. C. Campbell, C.M.G., Coast Defence Commander, was among those who were present. The toast of "The Garrison" was proposed by Colonel Campbell. who spoke of (he necessity for maintaining a er.lrong force for the defence of the country, and praised tho work that had been done by Contain Bril on behalf of tho Senior Cadets. . •
Response to the toast was made bx Colonel Beero. . Lieutenant W1 MT. Jones proposed “Tim Senior Odets,’’ and Captain D. E. Bremnor, who has succeeded Capinin 801 l in charge of No. 5 Groun. responded, The toast of “Our Guest," proposed by Captain Renkin, was drunk with enthusiasm, and fitting reply was made by Captain Bell. Those present wished Captain Bell every success in his now duties, and expressed the wish that his sojourn in Samoa would be a happy one. During the evening a programme of musical and elocuiionary items was contributed by Captain D. C. Armstrong, M.C., and Lieutenants J. C. Carter. M-C.. K. Luke, and E. W. Lewis
