RIFLE CLUBS’ UNION

ANNUAL MEETING. At the annual meeting of the Wellington City and Suburban Rifle Clubs’ Union tho report presented by the executive committee for the past year showed that the efforts of the union in conducting annual inter-dub teams’ competitions had met with much success. The ■ Pet one Club’s success in the Senior Shield match was warmly accepted by all ap a popular win. Although the Petone Club had ■ previously been successful in the Junior Shield matches, this was its first success in the senior competition. The Suburbs Club earned the congratulations of the competing- teams on its success m the Junior Shield match. A summary ot the results of both competitions Was as follows: —Senior Shield Match*. Petone, P. 63 points; Karori, 843 points; Cid Navals, 820 points: Suburbs, 803 points. The last-named club fired one man short at 600 yards. Junior Shield Match: Suburbs, 803 points; Petone, 776 points; Karori, 561 points. The lastnamed team competed with only eight men. ....

A new phase of the union’s activities took definite shape during the year, when as an outcome of the union’s proposals, home and home matches were held among representative teams from the four principal Dominion centres, viz.: Auckland, Wellington. Christchurch, and Dunedin. These matches provided a very interesting competition, although a somewhat uneven one by reason of the varying conditions at the different centres. The interest taken in the matches was of itself aufllcier»t to justify their being held, and also their continuance In the future. The result was a win for Auckland, with Wellington, Canterbury, and Otago following in that order The union expresses its .satisfaction on the success of the Petone Club’s team in the teams’ match at the last Greytown meeting, and of the Suburbs Club’s team in the Rifle Club Champion Teams Match •at the laut. D.R.A. meeting. Individual successes of Wellington riflemen at these meetings and at Hastings and Taranaki were also very satisfactory, while the inclusion of three Wellington men in the New Zealand team which visited Australia in ~ October was quite a feature of the team. . . Tho union congratulates its chairman, Mr. J. Rabe, on'his good recovery from the severe illness which confined him to his bed for ao long a period during the year. It is the hope of all his, fellowriflemen. that he shall long continue in good health. tn conviction with the past season s matches, the union’s thanks are expressed to Messrs. H. Hawthorn, J. M Donald. and William Cowan for their valuable services towards the successful running of the arrangements. The sympathy of the umon is expressed to the Petone Club on the loss of u prominent member through the judden death of Deputy-President James Liddle.
