LOWER HUTT BOROUGH COUNCIL
The Mayor (Mr. E. P. Rishworth) presided over the meeting of the Lower Hutt. Borough Council on Monday, when there wove also present Councillors A. Mitchell, W. B. Hardy, W Meldrum, Willoughby, Knight, A. J. West, A. J. Hobbs, E. J. Guiness, A. Mnca’skill, and W. T. Cotton. The Government .Insurance Department advised that under the terms of the Workers’ Compensation Amendment Act, 1921, the liability of empl<iyer s had been increased from £5OO 'to £575, and that the premium nites had been in-crea-ed accordingly. On the motion of Councillor Mitchell, seconded by Councillor West, it was decided to ask the company to cover (the council for the extra risk incurred. A Di cm ora ndu in was receiver from the. Acting District Ekgineei of Railways setting out the conditions upon which 'permission was granted the council to beautifv the precincts of the Hutt railway station. The Mayor .said he had gone into the terms thoroughly, and Im thought it 'would be advisable to ••iceept them On his motion it was decided io accept the offer of the Railways Department and instruct the engineer to place the work on the list of works. The town clerk. Wellington, stated that no advice bad b-en given to earriprs bv corporation officials not fo pay hc/\vv license fo the council. ' [t ' was decided to furnish the Hutt River Board with the necessary accommodation for lifebuoys which the board proposed to erect at the mum and Melting bridges.
