BOWLING

THE DOMINION TOURNAMENT ANOTHER LOVELY DAY WINS AND LOSSES TO DATE Probably never in the history of any summer game has there been so many visitors to Wellington as are attending the Dominion Bowling Association’s tournament, now being played daily on. every city and suburban green. Never was there, such bowling weather at tournament time in Wellington.' Although the city was gently fanned by a light northerly breeze yesterday, the weather was very hot on the greens-—and every bowler appeared to revel in it.* Ak was to be expected, the greens are very keen, and consequently the play is slow'. If yesterday’s weather lasts they will be as smooth as glass by the end of the week. The complaints received were, negligible, and players from all parts of the Dominion have expressed their appreciation of the good greens and satisfactory arrangements made for their comfort and pleasure. Players are generally observing the "one-foot-on-dhe-mat ’ rule, on which the umpires are insisting. The secretarial work of Mr. S. H. lindenwood is beyond reproach. VISITING “SKIPS” TO BE ENTERTAINED The president (Mr. M. A. Carr) and vice-president (Mr. Godfrey Magnus), of the AVellington' Bowling Club, have issued invitations to the skips of visiting rinks to be their guests at an entertainment to be given in the Wellington Club's pavilion to-morrow evening. AUSTRALIAN BOWLERS THE NEW ZEALAND TOUR OFF. "Strike compels cancel trip. Regrets. —M'Millan,” was the wording of a cable message received yesterday by Mr. S. H. Underwood, secretary of the Dominion Bowling Association. 'The team was to have left Sydney to-morrow for Auckland, and was to tour the whole of the Dominion, including the chief health and scenic resorts, finally leaving M ellington for Sydney towards the end of February. The cablegram is a commentary on the outlook of the stewards' strike in Sydney, as the sender was evidently quite sure two days before the time fixed for sailing that there was no chance of the steanyr getting away. Local and visiting bowlers join wit'h Mr, M'Millan in expressing regret that the tour has had to be abandoned.
