The fortnightly meeting, of tho Society for the Prevention, of Cruelty to Animals took place laaf evening. The president, Mr. F. Meadowcroft. wna in the chair. The secretary reported that a donation of £4 4s. was received from a lady, with tho suggestion that it. be ÜBcd as prizes for essays dealing with the humane treatment of dumb animals, from a school or 6chools in Wellington. Subscriptions received amounted to £5 Sb.. including .£4 4b. .from Mrs. L. Hugo, and £1 Is/ from Master Butchers' Live Stock Association.
