NATIONAL DEFENCE LEAGUE
ELECTION OF DISTRICT COUNCIL' TO-NIGHT. The movement in favour of maintain-, irig a sound system of defensive'training will be furthered to-night, when a' gen- «r eral meeting of members and intending g members of the National Defence League j| of New Zealand will be held in the big conference chamber, Farmers' Institute |f Buildings (corner of Foatheraton and H Ballance Streets), for the purpose of electing a Wellington District Council. This district council is required for the purpose of establishing local branches, and generally conducting the league's educational campaign within that area, and in this respect ivill be distinct from the general council, which, though the members of -it (with the exception of tha Dreaident, General Sir Andrew Russell, of Hastings( are resident in Wellington, is responsible for extending the league's organisation throughout Now Zealand, and for the issue of literature, membership cards, etc. It is hoped that as a result of to-night's meeting a really strong and representative district council will be appointed which will push the local campaign vigorously, and will make the league, both in its membership and influentially, the strongest body of any within the city and its environs. Like the general council the district council will be composed of ten men and five women. Ladies accordingly are spceinly invited to attend. Mr. J. P.
