PARLIAMENT

■ UU&HNLTHE WEEK , EXEMPTIONS PROM INCOME TAX ..; THe, Government is under the necessity of replenishing the Order Paper for - the coming week if the House of Repreisentatives is to be kept busy. On the • first day of sitting it is probable that ft number of Government Bills will be jproduoed, most of them appropriation measures to como down by Governor's ■; Message. Among them will probably be "the War Regulations Continuance Bill, the Judicature Amendment Bill, the (Magistrate's Salaries Bill, the Expiring •Laws Oontimianco Bill, and the Civil ILjst Number 2 Bill. The titles of these Bills indjeate what business they will entail for the House. It is understood that the Civil List No. 2 Bill will re--meve the objectionable feature of the first Bill, the exemption of salaries prodded for in the civil list, including the salaries of members of Parliament and ;Minister of tho Crown from income tax. ■ mien this Bill comes up for considerajtion by the Hou6e there should be nn •interesting discussion on it, but if it [comes down, to-day it should not '-in-the ordinary course of business bo ■dismissed until Friday, the intervening idajs-bong reserved for businesg other •than that introduced by the Governmeat. It ia just possible that the Standard Time Bill will bo debated this week, mit t the chances are tint it will not. It is already Tecognised that this will •j be a highly contentious measure.
