ANZAC GRAVES
WHAT THE TURK MUST GIVE. The sacral ground on Gallipoli whers tho dead of the Allied forces lie buried is, according to tho Peace Treaty with Turkey, to be transferred to tho Allied Governments by tho Turk. Tho Prima Minister made available yesterday tho following extract from tho treaty with Turkey: "The Turkish Government shall transfer to tho British, French and Italian Governments respectively full and exclusive rights of ownership over tho land within tho boundaries of Turkey as fixed by the present Treat)' in which are- situated the graves of their soldiers and sailors who fell in action or died from wounds, accident or disease, as well as over tho land required for laying out cemeteries or erecting memorials-to theso soldiers and sailors, or providing means of access to such cemeteries or memorials." s This matter was first raised by\ Mr. Massey at tho Imperial Conference in 1917, when ho submitted tho following motion:
"That this conference is strongly of opinion that when poaco terms are being arranged, an earnest endeavour shall ba made to placo that part of the_ Gallipoli Peninsula where Lie tho remains of so many British and oversea Dominion soldiers under tho control -of an Imperial organisation upon which Australia, New faalnnd, and India should bo represented for the purpose of ensuring that tho bodies of tho heroes who gave their lives for the Empire at tho most criticnl tima in all its history shall bo cared for in o manner worthy of tho deeds they pepformed and the sacrifices they made."
