ENGLISH SINGERS COMING

* AND THE TOWN HALL POLICY. Tho Wellington eeasoa in connection With tho concert tour (arranged by Messrs. Cbflppell and Co,, of London) of the English vocalists, Miss Amy Evans and Mr. Praeer Gauge, is to- commence at the Town Hall on August 17. The season was to have included tho following Saturday evening, August 21, but tho City Council authorities have decided that nothing shall break the continuity of the weekly organ recitals With particularly bright prospects of a notable half-year as far as visits of distinguished artists in music are concerned—amongst them Mrs. Gertrude Johnson and Mr. Horace Hunt, M. Benno Moiseiwitch (the great Eussinn pianist), Mr. John M'Cormack, tho Irish-American tenor, and Miss Adelnido Van Sfaveren—music lovers consider it unfortunate that the council has practically closed the doors of the Town Hall against managers on the one big show night of the week, for it is the one .night on which many of tho public can attend such performances. In the faco of the results in attendances that are being achieved by tho organ recitals, the argument that they are in the interests of the nublic is held to bo futile, as the public is resolntelv refusing to attend them.
