ENGLISH CRICKET

BEST PERFORMANCES THIS SEASON (Rec. June 27, 5.5 p.m.) London June 24. The performances in the first half of the cricket season, show that Hobbs, Hendren, and Henrno will certainly be invited to go to Australia. Hendrcn's consistency is remarkable. It is equally sound in nttack and defence-, has splendid stamina, and is a first-rate and versatile fieldsman. -Hendren is a, professional footballer, but informed tho Australian Press that he would gladly forgo tho football season for the Australian tour. Hobbs and Hearne do not forsee anv difficulty in going. Rhodes is sure of an invitation for his ■ bowling alone, though lie is al6o high in batting averages. Ho has reverted to his old place as the outstanding bowler in England. Warner considers that Rhodes is still wdispensablo 'for test matches, on his present bowling form, though it is twenty years since he first toured Australia. Rhodes told tho Australian Press Association that ho hopes to renew his plon6ant acquaintance with Australian cricket. Wnolley is another certainty on all-round form. Among the amateurs, Douglas and Knight stand out, and are sure to receive invitations if their current!; form is maintained. The best averages aro:—Batting: Hendren, 72 runs per innings; Hobbs, 59.64; Lee. 58.G9. Bowling: Rhodes, 58 wickets, average 11 runs per wicket; Beltington, (13 wickets, average 12.81; Bridges, 34 wickets, nvcrage 12.88; Cook, 70 wickets, average 13.11. Yorkshire and Surrey aro now equal in the county championship.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
